Rosephanye Dunn Powell, an American composer, vocalist, professor, and researcher, is regarded as one of the nation’s top choral composers.

Rosephanye Powell, a celebrated American composer, is renowned for her exceptional solo vocal and choral music. Her works for mixed chorus, women’s chorus, men’s chorus, and young voices include both sacred and secular pieces. Her compositional style is distinguished by appealing melodies, strong rhythmic emphasis, rich harmonies frequently drawn from popular African-American music, and a variety of vocal textures. Her catalog of musical works has garnered widespread recognition, spans a diverse range of genres, and are highly sought after at choral festivals throughout the United States.

With degrees from The Florida State University, Westminster Choir College, and Alabama State University, she currently serves as a Professor of Voice at Auburn University, where she is acknowledged for her research in African-American spirituals and voice care for professionals in the music industry. Recognized with numerous accolades, including the Luise Vosgerchian Teaching Award from Harvard University, the Living Legend Award from California State University, and the Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Powell remains an active member of esteemed musical organizations such as ASCAP, ACDA, and NATS.
